Well friends. The election is over. The votes are in and a winner has been announced.
I’ll be brave and tell you that my candidate didn’t win. [Insert sad face here] I will also admit that I’m disappointed … but really … it’s ok. I’m ok.
You see, I’m a Christian. I love God and I trust God … even when it doesn’t make sense. And because I love God, it’s in times like this I cling to Romans 13:1-2.
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
Point I’m trying to make is this … God allowed Obama to win. He was not surprised by this win and He’s not sitting in heaven wringing his hands wondering what to do next. God knew. God allowed. It’s all part of God’s plan. God always has a plan.
As I watched the numbers unfold last night my mind wandered to the movie “The Lion King”. You know, the Disney movie. Have you seen it??
Well, when Mufasa [a good king] was ruler of the land then the country was blessed. It flourished and prospered.
However, when his brother Scar [a bad king] was on the throne … well, the country suffered. It was struck with famine and was miserable and just an ugly place to live.
I know, I know. I can hear you now. “Geesh Tammie, that is so a Disney movie. Not reality. What the heck??”
Well friends, I believe even though that is a Disney movie the premise behind it holds true in reality. You see, it’s even in the Bible.
In biblical times when Israel was in line with God and following His ways, then he would bless the nation with good kings and the nation flourished. However, when Israel got selfish and started following their own desires and their own ways and making up their own rules [sound familiar?] then God allowed bad kings to rule [Ahab anyone??] and the Israelites would suffer greatly. Suffer even to the point of exile and captivity many times.
Yet, even with the bad kings God was still in control. He still had a plan … and usually that plan was to bring the nation back to Him.
Barack Obama is the President. It’s been decided.
So, we move on. And as we move on … those of us that profess to be Christians … we have an obligation to pray for President Obama. We are to pray for him as President. Pray for him and respect him because of the authority God has established him to have in our lives.
So my friends, let’s do that. Let’s pray for President Obama and perhaps … maybe … with God’s help … Obama really will end up being a Mufasa and not a Scar.
