This coming weekend my baby girl will graduate from high school. To that I must say, WHAT??!! I mean, just when did she get old enough for that to happen and why didn’t anyone ask me my opinion on her becoming an adult?
It is said all the time by parents, and even Charles Billingsly wrote a song about it, but truly it does seem as if I just blinked *and poof* she’s gone from a baby to an adult. She’s gone and grown up regardless of what I tried to do to stop it! She has accomplished so much with her education that I can’t help but be so very proud of my Summa Cum Laude child!
As I think about her impending graduation day and her starting a “real life” soon … and as I wipe away yet another tear or two … I am reminded of Dr. Seuss. It is Dr. Seuss that says it best what I believe all us graduate parents feel …
The following excerpt was taken [and slightly changed] from
Oh the Places You’ll Go … By Dr. Seuss
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)
KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!
So… be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or even Angel Baby and Princess you say,
you’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!
Congratulations to my baby girl and all of her 2012 graduating class!!
